Rockstar Says GTA 6 'Plays Best on PS5' — Then Sony Quietly Pulled the Campaign

Out of the blue, Sony and Rockstar dropped news on their shared blog: GTA 6 runs strongest on PS5. Because they've worked hand in glove, special tech like DualSense vibrations, trigger resistance that shifts, 3D sound through Tempest, plus lightning-fast loading thanks to the console's SSD makes it feel sharper there. While other platforms get the game, these details fit together only one way on this machine.

A fresh start came with the rollout: a "Plays Best on PS5" badge appeared at the same time. Promotion spread through YouTube, then X, while Instagram carried it further, Bluesky picked up the rest.

After that, much just vanished.

Hours passed before the YouTube clip vanished, followed by the message on X, then the picture on Instagram, along with the note shared through Bluesky - all gone without warning. The first announcement, posted to the PlayStation blog, remained unchanged, still sitting online word for word. Silence came from both Sony and Rockstar, offering no reason for removing the updates spread across platforms.

Not much flash in the tech talk here. Haptic feedback and adjustable triggers actually exist on the DualSense - only works fully on PS5. Sound shaped by Tempest 3D isn't fake news; it does what they say. Loading times? That part checks out thanks to a swift SSD, yet the Xbox counterpart isn't far off with its own rapid storage. Just because it feels different on PS5 doesn't mean it runs faster. What changes is how the controller talks back to you - something Xbox can't match.

Most of the time, what looks like tech news is really just promotion in disguise. Behind every console feature you see, there's likely money exchanged - special branding deals, exclusive timing on ads, spots highlighted in digital stores. When a small game gets its own full write-up only on PlayStation's site, something paid made that happen.

Weeks matter more than you might think. Right when this came out, IGN said PS5 pre-orders beat Xbox by eight times via referral links - something Microsoft quickly challenged head-on. Could be Sony's campaign driving those numbers. Might just be momentum they're catching anyway. Hard to know which, really. Outside perspective only gets you so far.

Right now it's clear. The official GTA 6 site by Rockstar shows a bold "Plays Best on PS5" tag. Links shared through their YouTube and TikTok campaigns? Those point straight to the PlayStation Store. Mention of other platforms takes a back seat.

When picking a console just for GTA 6, the DualSense perks help - though only a little. What weighs heavier? Cost, games you already own, who you play with. Haptics take a back seat. Not everything hinges on vibrations.
